Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~
It’s Friday afternoon and tomorrow is this season’s very last Salem Saturday Market. Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing to market:
- Bok Choy (just 4! But 4 more than we had last week.)
- Brussels Sprouts
- Butternut Squash
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Chard
- Chicory
- Delicata Squash
- Kale
- Leeks
- Lettuce
- Mustard Greens (a late addition, but tasty!)
- Pumpkins (even some pie pumpkins this week!)
- Radicchio
- Snow Pea Shoots
We’ve been handing out thank you notes for several weeks now, but we’re actually down to the very last Saturday Market of the season. From deciding to grow vegetables back in March, to harvesting the last of the leeks and cauliflower tonight, and all of the shenanigans in the middle, it’s been a wonderful and busy year for us. We’ve really enjoyed growing vegetables for you and hope you’ll join us again in the spring for our second year of offering fresh, local vegetables.
We’re making progress on the structure of the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program we will be starting next year. We are planning a small 20-30 member CSA for the Salem, OR area beginning next year. The price will probably be around $500 for a 25ish week season, starting in June and extending through October. This works out to approximately $20 per week. We will most likely have a couple of payment options including a single payment, a two-time payment, and perhaps a monthly payment option. We are currently planning on having weekly pick-ups of pre-boxed vegetables on Saturday at the Salem Saturday Market. Our goal is to finalize the decisions and begin accepting confirmations from new members in early December. We’ll be sending out an e-mail at that time with the details. Please pass on our contact information to anyone you think might be interested in signing up! We’ll be adding a more descriptive page to our website about CSAs but in the meantime if you’d like more information, check out the Local Harvest page (http://www.localharvest.org/csa/) for some basics and please contact us with any questions.
Once again, we appreciate each of our customers and thank you for supporting us in our farming endeavor!
We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm. The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.
Thanks!
Jeff and Carri
