this week at market!

cauliflower at market

Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

It’s already Friday and we’re gearing up for the Salem Saturday Market!  We began harvesting from the acre last night and we’ll finish up this evening for fresh veggies tomorrow morning.  Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing to the Market:

  • Basil
  • Beans (Green, Purple, & Yellow!)
  • Broccoli Florets
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots (NEW this week!)
  • Cauliflower
  • Chard
  • Cucumbers (slicing and pickling!)
  • Dill
  • Kale
  • Lettuce
  • Yellow Crookneck Squash
  • Zucchini

As most of you know, our farm is currently the second job around here, as we both have day jobs.  Jeff is on an academic schedule and we’ve been lucky to have him off and able to focus on farm tasks for the last two months.  This past week he went back to work, so this marks the first week with Market that we’re both working during the day and farming in the evening.  Although our time at the acre has been limited this week, each night we made incremental progress.  Among other tasks, we weeded tomatoes, tomatillos, and leeks, all of which are making excellent progress towards a fall showing in our market booth.  We also weeded carrots which we’re harvesting the first of this week!  They’re finally sizeable enough to bring to market with more on the way.  This week, pulling bright orange carrots out of the ground was reason enough to keep at this farming thing.

We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm.  The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
Jeff and Carri
