Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~
Tomorrow is the Salem Saturday Market! Once again we began harvesting from the acre last night and Jeff continued this morning. We’ll finish up this evening for fresh veggies tomorrow morning. Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing to the Market:
- Basil
- Beans (Green, Purple, & Yellow!)
- Beets (get them this week only!)
- Broccoli Florets
- Bunching Onions (they’re back for this week!)
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Chard
- Collards
- Cucumbers (slicing and pickling!)
- Dill
- Kale
- Lettuce
- Yellow Crookneck Squash
- Zucchini
We continued our pattern from last week and planted out another succession of basil, lettuce, radicchio, and spinach on the acre Monday. We also sowed more carrots. Tuesday and Wednesday we were able to weed carrot, cabbage, and cauliflower beds and Jeff spent some time tilling in empty beds where lettuce, peas, and potatoes once grew. And of course last night we began harvesting to make sure we are able to finish before tomorrow morning. The cooler weather is suggesting autumn and we’re watching the winter squash and pumpkins grow and ripen steadily. We’re also planning for next spring and hoping for success in overwintering some crops like carrots, broccoli, cabbage, and various greens. But the summer bounty isn’t over just yet and we have many more weeks of fresh veggies to bring you!
We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm. The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.
Thanks!
Jeff and Carri
