this week at market!

fresh carrots

Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

Tomorrow is Saturday, which means of course the Salem Saturday Market!  We’ve harvested an abundance of fresh veggies for the Market.  Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing:

  • Basil
  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots (a different variety from last week, but just as tasty!)
  • Cauliflower
  • Chard
  • Cucumbers (slicing and pickling!)
  • Kale
  • Lettuce (we’ll have Romaine this week, in addition to red and green leaf lettuces)
  • Yellow Crookneck Squash
  • Zucchini

We took a break on Wednesday evening from our usual planting/weeding/harvesting routine to enter several varieties of vegetables in the Oregon State Fair.  We’re big fans of the Polk County Fair, our county fair, but because our acre of vegetables is located in Linn County we weren’t able to enter them.  Luckily we got our chance to compete in the State Fair, as anyone in Oregon can enter!  We harvested our best looking bush beans, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, and pumpkin Wednesday evening in lieu of weeding an overrun cabbage bed.  Thursday during our lunch break we headed down to the state fairgrounds and submitted them.  The judging was this morning and hopefully we’ll have some good news tomorrow morning at Market!  We’ve got a few more entries for the second vegetable competition next week too.  So, if you’re heading down to the Oregon State Fair, check out the vegetables in the ‘Hart of the Garden’ building!  Or come and get your own veggies at the Market tomorrow.

We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm.  The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
Jeff and Carri
