Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

It’s a beautiful fall Friday and we’re gearing up for the Salem Saturday Market tomorrow!  Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing to market:

  • Bok Choy
  • Broccoli
  • Butternut Squash
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Chard
  • Chicory
  • Cucumbers (a limited supply, the last of the last)
  • Delicata Squash
  • Kale
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Pumpkins
  • Tomatillos
  • Tomatoes
  • Turban Squash
  • Yellow Crookneck Squash
  • Zucchini

Things are quickly winding down at the acre.  Tuesday we were able to weed three beds of over-wintering broccoli and turnips.  In fact much of our focus has been on the crops that will be surviving the winter months in the field, rather than those we’re bringing to market now.  We have plans to plant next year’s garlic crop this weekend and are already anticipating new vegetables that we’d like to bring into the rotation.  In fact, we invite your suggestions for next year’s growing season.  Is there a specific pepper or potato that you’d like to see at market?  Or perhaps a vegetable you remember from your childhood that you’d like to see revived?  Let us know and we’ll gladly investigate it and try our hand at growing it!  In the meantime, we’ve got a great day at market ahead of us!

We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm.  The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
Jeff and Carri

Looks like a typical Fall day in OR, at the market, with the weather changes!! Are you going to cook and freeze the pumpkins that do not sell, for wonderful pumpkin desserts later?? Love the pix, especially the one of the pumpkins in the VW!!

    Jeff,
Congratulations on the move into agriculture. I know this was your hope. Are you still in West Salem? Miss you at Bush.
