this week at market {july 31}

Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

We’re harvesting for the Salem Saturday Market tomorrow!  Here’s what we plan to bring to market:

  • Basil
  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Bunching Onions
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Chard
  • Collards
  • Cooking Greens Mix (Kale, Chard, Collards, Parsley)
  • Cucumbers (pickling & slicing)
  • Green Beans
  • Kale (Red Russian & Lacinato)
  • Lettuce (Romaine, Butter, & Crispleaf)
  • Salad Mix (a mix of lettuces)
  • Summer Squash (yellow straightneck & zucchini)

This was not the most productive of weeks at the farm.  We put aside the majority of the weeding for a couple of days and spent some time with my nieces who were visiting from Texas.  We don’t get to see them often enough and it was fun to show them the farm and all of the things we’re growing out there.  We gave them each one of our cameras and they took some fantastic photos of the flowers and vegetables.  They were even kind enough to get a few of us moving pipe!  I also took a day off and we went to a local berry farm and picked berries and made scrumptious boysenberry/raspberry/marionberry jam.  Before we sent them off we convinced them to help us plant the first round of our seeds we hope to overwniter.  With their help we now have leeks, collards, bunching onions, and celeriac germinating in the greenhouse.  We may not have crossed many things off the to-do list this week, but definitely had fun!

We hope you’ll make it down to the Saturday Market between 9am and 3pm.  The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
