this week at market {june 19}

Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

It’s the weekend once again and we’re harvesting for the Saturday Market! Here’s what we plan to bring to market:

  • Beets
  • Broccoli Raab
  • Chard
  • Collards
  • Cooking Greens Mix (Kale, Chard, Collards)
  • Garlic Scapes
  • Kale (Red Russian)
  • Lettuce (Romaine, Butter, and Crispleaf)
  • Salad Mix (a mix of lettuces)
  • Spinach
  • Turnips

Monday is the summer solstice which marks the official start of summer, but we’re still waiting for the spring rains to stop. And what about the summer temps? A few days in the 80s at least would be welcome. As you might notice from the list of what we’re bringing to market, the rain and flood and cold weather are all conspiring against our vegetables which are stagnant out in the field. We’ve got peas, carrots, and even basil on the horizon though. Plus we’ve made serious progress on much-needed weeding this week. The onions, leeks, carrots, winter squash and sweet potatoes are all the better for it. And perhaps with the summer solstice, we’ll get the summer temperatures they need to thrive. While we wait for summer though, we can continue to enjoy the wonderful spring greens we’re bringing to market.

We hear it may be a little rainy tomorrow, but we hope to see you at market anyhow sometime between 9am and 3pm. The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
