Hello from Pitchfork & Crow~

It’s Friday, so of course we’re getting ready for the Saturday Market!  Here’s what we plan to be bringing to market:

  • Arugula
  • Broccoli Raab
  • Chard
  • Collards
  • Cooking Greens Mix (Kale, Chard, Collards)
  • Garlic Scapes
  • Kale (Red Russian and Lacinato)
  • Lettuce (Romaine, Butter, and Leaf)
  • Prize Choy
  • Salad Mix (a mix of lettuces)
  • Spinach
  • Turnips

Do you remember that amazing weather we had last Saturday?  The sun came out and it felt like summer had really arrived.  We had a great day at market.  Everyone was happy to be out in the warm weather. And then, at the end of the market day, we got a phone call telling us our field was flooded.  Yes, flooded.  More details and photos here: http://pitchforkandcrow.com/2010/06/11/the-flood/.  Now that the water has receded things seem to be back to normal but we’re still waiting for things to dry out enough to determine the extent of the damage.

This week while we’ve waited for drier weather, we did get some weeding done, which has made for happier carrots and onions.  We also sowed successions of lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and basil.  Of course these latest plantings won’t be ready for some time, and can’t replace plants we’ve lost to the flooding, but it does help us rest knowing there will be more vegetables at some point in the season.  In the meantime, we’ve still got a lot of springy greens to share with you this week!

We hope to see you Saturday sometime between 9am and 3pm.  The Salem Saturday Market is located at the intersection of Summer and Marion streets NE in downtown Salem.

Thanks!
Carri Heisler and Jeff Bramlett
