We’re already looking forward to South Salem Farmer’s Market Sunday!  We’ll be harvesting from the acre tomorrow evening for fresh veggies on Sunday.  Here’s a selection of what we’ll be bringing to the Market:

  • Amaranth
  • Beets
  • Bunching Onions
  • Chard
  • Collards
  • Kale
  • Lettuce
  • Peas
  • Salad Mix

We’re expanding the offering with beets and onions, but we still have a lot of greens this week.  The field looks great though, and I think we’re on the verge of having a bigger selection of vegetables for you!

We hope to see you Sunday sometime between 10am and 3pm.  The market is located at the intersection of Liberty and Madrona in South Salem.

Amaranth! We like to eat popped amaranth for breakfast (whenever the girls can talk me into standing over the stove for long enough to satiate their amaranth-love), but we haven’t had it fresh. What part do you bring to market and how do you prepare it? If we weren’t leaving tomorrow (the dinghy floats, by the way…yay!), I’d be tempted to come get some. I hope your market day goes splendidly!

Oh, it’s great to hear from someone who is familiar with the stuff. We get a lot of questions about the amaranth but very few takers. We are bringing the leaves of the plant and have heard you can treat it like chard or beet greens and eat it raw or saute it. They are a gorgeous purple and personally I’d buy it just for that I think. We have a bit in the field and will probably let a good deal of it go to seed. We’re very intrigued to see what happens with it and try to harvest the grain eventually.

Have fun on your trip! What an adventure!

This is the first time I have made it to your site. My girlfriend from MN, Chris, is visiting and she has a family farm. Naturally we looked at her farmsite and then I had to show her yours. Your photos are beautiful – as are your vegetables, sign, baskets, and set up at the market. I especially am impressed by this wooden thing that holds the veggies. did you make it! I didn’t even know the name of your farm until now, but I love it. It does suit you. I enjoyed reading the post about all the other name choices as well. I am amazed at all the energy you are putting into this venture, and all the extra things you have to do besides just farm the land. I’m amazed, amazed, amazed. Your recipe photos look so beautiful it makes me hungry. I wish I lived closer so I could have a working share on your CSA someday. Everything looks delish. Are you growing ground cherries yet… they are my new snack at the farmers market every week. Tasty! Love, Rachel
